  8. NetWare 3.01B for the HP 9000 Series 700 is a fully compatible
  9. NetWare  server product which provides transparent integration of
  10. DOS, OS/2 Windows  and UNIX(NFS) desktop systems. The HP 9000
  11. with NetWare services will connect  existing  Novell networks or,
  12. can be used to build  new NetWare networks and provide the same
  13. services as Netware PC based servers.  NetWare for the HP9000 is
  14. an robust, high speed network operating system that enables
  15. HP9000 systems to operate as a file and resource server to
  16. desktop workstations. It runs on and takes advantage of HP's full
  17. range of powerful HP-UX servers.

  19. NetWare  for the HP 9000 provides the functionality of  Novell(R)
  20. Inc.'s  PC  services including file and printer  sharing,  server
  21. administration functions( such as password  security,  connection
  22. maintenance,   bindery  facility,  print  queue  management,  and
  23. accounting  services).

  25. In  addition to file and print sharing capabilities,  NetWare  on
  26. the   HP  9000  will  provide  support  for  NetWare  Application
  27. Programming Interface(API) such as Sequence Packet Exchange(SPX).
  28. These  API are the foundation for client-server  applications  on
  29. NetWare networks.

  31. NetWare  offers client access to a wealth of PC application plus
  32. access  to  mission critical UNIX based application .  Users  can
  33. continue to use PC applications from the familiar PC environment.
  34. In addition,  users can also access UNIX resources including  a
  35. wide  range  of  CPUs,  disks,  printers  and  plotters.  NetWare
  36. complements   other   HP   networking  products   such   as   the
  37. ARPA/Berkeley  Services,  HP  Network Services(NS),  and  Network
  38. File System(NFS)tm Services.

  40. Through the combination of NFS and NetWare,  users on both PC and
  41. Unix  platforms  can  share  files and  resources.  With  PCs  in
  42. finance, and marketing  and  UNIX  workstations  in engineering,
  43. users can continue to use their familiar interfaces
  44. while sharing files and printers.   Netware can be easily add  to
  45. the  UNIX network server,  providing a bridge between departments
  46. increasing productivity across corporate organizations.

  52. expandability   never  before  achievable  on  an  Netware  Intel

  62. server.  Added  are  the resources that only the power of the  HP
  63. 9000  can  provide including  larger  systems,  and  peripherals,
  64. security  and reliability,  and access to sophisticated,  complex,
  65. mission-critical applications.

  68. File Sharing
  69.  
  70. To  the end user,  the file sharing capability includes  familiar
  71. NetWare   file  access,   file  allocation,   and  administration
  72. features.  Also,  NetWare  features such as resource  accounting,
  73. password  protection,  and  file backup  are  included.  Backward
  74. compatibility   for  NetWare  clients  to  version  2.1   insures
  75. installation   of  NetWare  for  the  HP  9000  will  not   cause
  76. interruption of Novell networks already installed.

  78. Access  to MS-DOS(R), or  OS/2(R) files from HP-UX applications
  79. is  provided by a set of function  calls  when  the server is in
  80. operation.

  83. Print Sharing
  84.  
  85. Printer  sharing and print queue management is  provided  through
  86. the  same  commands familiar to all NetWare users.  This  insures
  87. transparent print services with no special commands of procedures
  88. to be learned.  Any supported HP 9000 spooled printer can be  used
  89. to  print from a NetWare server print queue.  HP 9000 environment
  90. files can be associated with a print queue as well.

  93. Application Programming Interface(API)
  94.  
  95. Of  particular  importance to developers and end users  alike  is
  96. support of the interprocess communication capability that NetWare
  97. for  the  HP 9000 provides.  APIs are the foundation  upon  which
  98. client/server  platforms  are based.  The HP 9000 is  a  powerful
  99. server  platform for mission critical OLTP database client-server
  100. applications being developed for corporations of all sizes today.

  102. NetWare  for  the  HP 9000 supports  Novell's  popular  Sequenced
  103. Packet Exchange(SPX) protocol.  The SPX interface for both client
  104. and server are provided as part of NetWare for the HP 9000.

  107. Unix Workstation Connectivity

  109. In addition to DOS,  OS/2 and MS-Windows(R) clients,  NetWare for
  110. the HP  9000 in combination with NFS provides the ability to
  111. connect Unix  clients.   Unix  clients have all the  benefits of
  112. NetWare without  forfeiting their familiar native  Unix
  113. interface.  Unix workstations can share files with other NetWare
  114. clients and print to NetWare printers.  In the reverse, Netware
  115. clients can print to Unix printers.

  118. HP ARPA Services 2.1 Connectivity
  119.  
  120. Access  to existing HP 9000 applications from a NetWare client is
  121. very  important.  HP  ARPA 2.1/MS-DOS for  NetWare  provides  this
  122. capability and is ordered separately,  Product Number D1823A.  HP
  123. ARPA Services 2.1/MS-DOS provides NetWare client PCs  running
  124. MS-DOS   with   ARPA, FTP, Virtual Terminal(TELNET)  and  Network
  125. Interprocess  Communication(NetIPC) connectivity to the HP 9000.

  131. Network Capacity
  132.  
  133. NetWare  for  the  HP  9000 will support up to  250  clients  per
  134. server.  Of  course the actual number of clients supported on  an
  135. individual  server will depend on what applications  and  network
  136. functions are running on that server.

  138. A  maximum  of  one NetWare server can be supported per  HP  9000
  139. system.

  142. System Environment

  144. NetWare  for the HP 9000 is available on all HP 9000  series  700.
  145.  
  146. Note: NetWare for the HP 9000 requires installation and operation
  147. of Lan Link.

  150. Installation Policy
  151.  
  152. NetWare  for the HP 9000 is a customer installable product.  Full
  153. installation  and  operation documentation is included  with  the
  154. product.  NetWare  for  the HP 9000 also comes with  complete  PC
  155. client software kits.  The customer is responsible for performing
  156. the   following  tasks  in  order  to  successfully  install  and
  157. configure NetWare for the HP 9000:
  158.  
  159.  o Verify the proper installation, configuration, and functioning
  160. of the LAN link.
  161.  
  162.  o  Update the HP 9000 system to proper release level and install
  163. èthe product.
  164.  
  165.  o Verify the successful installation of the product by accessing
  166. the HP Netware server from a NetWare PC client.
  167.  
  168.  o It is highly recommended that customer personnel be trained on
  169. Novell's NetWare in order to take advantage of the full range  of
  170. NetWare  capabilities.  Contact Novell's education department for
  171. information on Novell NetWare education courses.
